Second Criminal Justice Forum
On the 25th February we welcomed both familiar and fresh new faces to the second CJN forum. We were also very lucky to have Maureen Fordyce join us, a special guest speaker from Amparo Advocacy Inc. This is part of ensuring that the Network is just as relevant for those organisations not directly involved in criminal justice issues!
There was a lot of lively discussion at the forum about a few of the issue groups that were formed previously. In particular the Dangerous Prisoners Sexual Offenders Act and Coalition Against Inappropriate Remand. It was great to see meetings being arranged between members outside of the forum regarding these issues!
We also heard about two new initiatives, one of which Lee and Liz from Centrelink spoke about. This is the creation of five new Prison Liason Officers to be based at some Queensland Centrelink offices - more information coming. Karen spoke briefly about Qld Advocacy Inc's Mental Health Legal Service.
