Job seeking, among other issues, can be a major obstacle for people who have a criminal record. The Commission has received 68 complaints over the recent years from people reporting employment discrimination due to their criminal record. The complaints received by the Commission indicates that discrimination against people with a criminal record is greatly misunderstood by both employers and those with the criminal record.

Queensland is the only state that still locks up 17 year olds in adult prisons. 20 years ago the Government promised to stop this practice, yet it still continues.

Prison overcrowding claims and concerns over a blowout in prison budgets reopens the debate on whether jail is the most effective deterrent. The state's Sentencing Advisory Council does not believe it is the answer and that there are other alternatives.
